Our team encompasses all abilities from novice to former collegiate. To join, you should have at the least a minimum grasp of the front crawl, aka Freestyle. We can teach you the other strokes over time. The best way to see if the team is right for you is to come to a practice and swim. There are no "tryouts" or minimum times, however you should be able to meet the basic requirement above. There is no fee to come explore the team. Have more questions? Check out the FAQs.
If you decide to join the team, you will need to become a member of United States Masters Swimming (USMS) by filling out and submitting the USMS membership registration form. You will also need to register as a Sunfish Member.
Visiting members from other USMS teams are welcome to join us during your time in Phoenix. If you aren't familiar with the Phoenix area and need further information on getting to practice, contact the team leadership.
*Details:
- Membership dues total $310.00 per year paid either by a onetime payment at the end of the 30 day trial period or as $30.00 per month automatic payment. For new members dues are payable once your initial 30 day trial period ends. Existing or previous members do not qualify for another trial period and all dues are payable at the end of their current twelve month period. Absolutely no refunds.
- As an alternative to a yearly membership the Phoenix Sunfish does offer a “Punch Card” option. The cost of a punch card is $60.00 for 10 practices and is good for one year.
- Renewing members must make a payment for the next period before their current paid period expires.
- New Swimmers are allowed 30 days to swim with the team prior to making a payment. In order to continue attending practice, at the end of 30 days the new swimmer must have joined the team using a payment method AND must have joined USMS.
- Guest Swimmers from all other teams must have proof of USMS membership and are required to pay $5.00 per swim.
- Guest Swimmers from other local (Phoenix area) teams must abide by the New Swimmer payment policy (4).
- Visiting Swimmers from out-of-town teams ("out-of-town" means not from any of Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe, Peoria, etc.) may swim free of charge, but must show proof of USMS membership. They are encouraged to make a donation to the team consistent with their participation level.
- Any new or renewing swimmer with a financial hardship is encouraged to talk with the team Treasurer or a Board Member directly about the possibility of other flexible payment structures.
- There is a 50% student discounts available for full time college students on the pool usage fee only. Students are required to register with USMS. Students are also encouraged see team treasurer or a Board Member for discount information.
