Practice Format
The typical Sunfish workout is one and half hours. Usually the first 20 minutes or so is reserved for warm-up. After a short break for announcements, a coach will take the team through a series of organized group sets that can include cardiovascular, technique (drills), speed, distance, strokes, kicking or strength training . With a broad variety of abilities in the pool, the specific sets are tailored to the swimmers in each lane. Occasionally we will engage in stroke clinics, water polo , relays or another "offbeat" activity to vary our training and keep the workouts fresh.
Coaches
Our volunteer coaches come from within our own membership, each with their own varied background in swimming and coaching. The coaches work together to create an overall program focusing the team on specific goals such as competitions or stroke development. They also work closely with members to ensure individuals can accomplish their own goals. The predominant themes of all our workouts are camaraderie and strenuous, fun exercise.
